905-393-8827 Puppy Training Tips For House Training

Getting a new puppy is always an exciting time for a family. Puppies are so cute and adorable that it’s hard not to love them. They quickly become part of the family and everyone loves the playing, the curiosity and the sweet cuddliness but nobody enjoys it when they do their duty in the house. Potty training is probably the most difficult and likely the only real problem associated with having a new puppy but if you are going to be a happy dog owner you will need to know that your house training is efficiently done.

The most crucial thing to remember and to take into consideration is that your puppy is still just a baby. He does not yet have the ability to control his potty habits or to know what you are wanting him to do when you tell him to go potty. You will need to have patience and work with him closely for a few weeks before he has the ability to alert you when it is time to go out and to control his bladder and other functions.

A young puppy that is less than 15 weeks of age might need to go outside as frequently as 2-3 times per hour. A puppy that is frolicking hard will also have to go out more often because playing creates urine. Remind yourself that your puppy is still not able to control himself so any accidents at this stage are not his fault but rather yours for not taking him out to potty often enough.

The most crucial part to house training is to be consistent. Use consistent commands, take him to the same spot and give him consistent praise and treats. Your puppy will learn fast if you consistently do things the same way but mix anything up and he will get confused. Puppies respond well to consistency.

If you make the entire experience a positive one for your puppy your potty training will be completed sooner. That means that you will need to be patient and loving even when there is a mishap. Just take him outside and praise him when he does it correctly and don’t give it any attention when he does it wrong. Your puppy wants to make you happy so it is crucial that you do not do anything that will confuse him.

It is doubtful that you will be able to be with your puppy all the time so when you need to be away from your puppy you should use a crate. Puppies and dogs are natural den animals and they like to have a small space of their own. Also, puppies will rarely soil their own space so a crate will help to teach your puppy how to control himself.

Consistency is the most crucial part of house training. Make sure that you engage in a consistent command and take him to the same place every time so that there is no confusion on his part. Having a positive experience will also help him to learn faster and you will be done with your house training sooner.

It should take just a few short weeks to complete your potty training. Doing it right will serve you for the entire time that you own your dog so be consistent and positive and you will be able to have many happy years with your new puppy.
